I’m needing to extend my 100’ 3/8” lines out about 150’ each. Would 3/4” pvc be to big or would 1/2” be better since each line set will be roughly 250’ long. Really wanting to run a separate line to each diffuser from pump.

The bigger the line you run, the less resistance there is for the air moving through it. The only noticeable (negative) affect from a large line is that when the compressor starts up, there is a delay (while the volume of the line is pressurized) before you start getting air out of the diffusers. I run apx. 650 feet of 1" line from the compressor at my first pond to get to my second pond. The delay before air comes out of the diffusers is perhaps 30 seconds.

You could place a manifold (that's just a collection of valves) at the pond to control air output to each diffuser if you only run one airline to it. I do this at my second pond; the airline comes out of the ground to two 1" ball valves, then separate lines run to the two diffusers in the pond. This lets me select the deep water output in the Summer, but just send air to the shallow water output to blow ice holes in the Winter.

I've been curious about this Theo. For multi head aerator set-ups is it multiple lines from compressor to the pond edge (manifold by compressor) or a single line to the pond edge with ball valves at the pond edge controlling flow to each aerator. Sounds like you opted for the later in your case.

Thanks for sharing your design!

If the compressor is at the edge of the pond, yes, multi lines from the compressor. If remote compressor, then a remote valve box.

l agree with the "manifold" advice above if that fits your situation. It should also save on pipeline costs and installation time. Further, if you have valves right at the pond's edge, you can look at the diffuser boils in the water and tune your multi-head system much more easily.

Most people do not use PVC pipe for your application. (Although you certainly can.) Black polyethylene pipe is most commonly used.

Here is a link to that type of pipe at Tractor Supply just so you can read the specs.

Pipe - Tractor Supply sales page link

[I have no ties to Tractor Supply and have not used their pipe. I can get it a little cheaper from one of our local distributors.]

Most dealers also carry that kind of pipe in 300' lengths. That might be an excellent fit for your project since you could make one cut and extend your lines 150' with zero connections in the middle of your runs that might result in leaks.

Compressor is at Pond 1. There are three valves coming out of it. Two valves go to the separate lines going to the two diffusers there. The third valve controls the 650' 1" line runs to Pond 2, where there are separate valves and lines to the diffuser (deep water) and airstone (shallow water) there.

I guess you could call it a hybrid system (wrt esshup's excellent note), or an abomination designed by an Electrical Engineer who had plumbers for his Father and Grandfather. Either way, it works.

I got two 300' lengths from Home Depot (special order IIRC). The remaining footage I cherry-picked from a large supply of used 1" black water pipe I picked up from a shady well drilling company* (who regularly throws it away) I drive past on my way to work. (I use the not-so-nice used pipe for structures in the ponds.)

*They drilled all of the wells in the subdivision next door to our farm. When several of these wells were repaired (new submersible pumps installed, I believe), the wells were only half as deep as the drilling company had charged for when installed.
