People,

I have a small pond, about 1/8 acre, kidney shaped. 400' circumference. In the past when I limed I simply walked around the pond and by hand, cast out a scoop full of fine powdered lime. I tried to cover most of the pond surface. Wind took some of it away. is there a better way? I heard to not spread over the surface but to gently lay it down/spread it along the banks where the bank meets the water's edge.

PS: pH is currently 6.7, after a few heavy rains.

Thanks, people.

I've dumped buckets of lime along the shore and it worked though maybe a bit slow.

This year I took bags of lime out in my jon boat and tried my best to spread it out.

Typically if putting a lot in, if available in your area a spreader truck is called, it backs up to the pond in as many places as possible and it slings it into the pond. With your pond, spreading it out by hand may be labor intensive, but it might be the best way to do it.

So, nv, looks like you got quicker results by spreading vs along the shore, correct?
