Hey guys .... new to the forum; Thanks for having me. I just bought a house that sits on a small lake (approx 40 acres). It currently has a 3 x 8' stationary dock. I'm looking to create a tee by adding an 8 x 16 dock off the end of the existing. MY desire is to build a stationary dock with pressure treated frame and pipe supports (primarily for the stability aspect) but I'm not sure if the conditions will permit it. The lake is dammed with very little fluctuation in height. The later at the end of the existing dock is about 4.5 feet deep. Eight foot out from the end of the dock its about 7 feet deep. Is this depth pushing the limits of a pole supported dock? Am I flirting with disaster come winter from ice damage? I'm construction savvy but dock illiterate so any feedback and support would be appreciated ... Happy Memorial Day!

You are OK on the depth. As for ice damage, it all depends on prevailing winds and what side of the lake your dock will be on. Worst are East and North sides. We had a dock in a lake on the SW side since the early '70's with no issues at all. 60+ acres for that portion of the lake, total area was 360 acres or so. We used 2" galvanized schedule 80 pipe.
