Due to a purchasing mishap, I have a bag of Aquamax Largemouth that was unintended. I haven't had any bass on feed big enough to eat it for several years now, so I had to find a use for it.

I've been busting it up with a 3 lb hammer until the largest pieces are 1/3 to 1/4 the size of a regular AQLM piece, and feeding it in my SMB/YP/BGxRES pond. The sunfish and smaller YP clean up the smaller pieces (of which there are many), and the bigger YP (known size up to 14") are eating the big ones. (It is kinda fun to see a 9" BGxRES pecking at a big piece, like BG fingerlings do AQ 500/600.)

At 45% protein, I figure it should be pretty good for them. I was surprised to find AGLM about $4 a bag cheaper than AQ 500/600 (albeit in a 40 lb vs 50 lb bag), since it was several dollars more the last time I bought it.

Anybody else tried breaking up AQLM for smaller mouthed fish?

On a related note, I don't know why Purina doesn't list YP as one of the targeted species for AQ feeds.

Cecil Baird has his YP eating the Optimal Handthrow feed. That's a 22mm round pellet.
