Howdy! I just recently had a small pond built on my property adjacent to Red River Gorge in KY. It’s leaking and my research led me here. There appears to be a wealth of information here for fixing my leak and everything beyond where I hadn’t really imagined. In the spring I hope to build a new cabin to live in and I just wanted a nearby water source for wildlife and a pleasing view from my porch. I don’t know squat about ponds but maybe some day my expertise in another area will be beneficial to this forum some how. Thanks for letting me in! Tony McCoy

Welcome Tony. Yep, a wealth of info here about fixing leaks. Successfully fixing them; not so much. Dirt leaks.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Howdy Tony!
Do you ever fish the little creeks and bigger rivers in your area for spotted bass? You should be close to heaven for them - as they are also called Kentucky Bass.
If you post some more info on your pond leak, you can probably get some ideas thrown back out to you. Sometimes it is good to start the trouble-shooting during the winter before the spring rains come.
Good luck on your pond/cabin peaceful space!

Good luck on your pond/cabin peaceful space! I used to musky fish Red River & Cave Run a lot. My ultralight fishing was confined to Red River and it’s tributaries. The reintroduction of the river otter has REALLY hurt that fishing. There’s not enough trapping to keep their populations down and the fishing suffers greatly.

It was a real eye opener when I came to Pond Boss and read some of the stories of otters slaughtering whole ponds worth of fish! If you do stock your pond, there are some people on the forum that are highly efficient at trapping otters.

I think they're cute too, but am glad I don't have them in any of my ponds.
