Recent research on coffee beans found two quick & easy ways to improve that ambrosia of the gods.

First, store them in the coldest place possible, normally the freezer. Researchers found better & better flavor as temps dropped, all the way down to minus 320F! So don't leave the beans out on the counter unless you intend to use them immediately.

Second, add a few drops of water when you grind the beans. This reduces static electricity, enabling the grinder to get finer particles, improving flavor extraction.

Maybe my time as a pond owner is coming to a close, but I'd still like to contribute to my fellow pondmeisters when & as I can. Besides, the buyers may have questions that you folks can answer better than I. Enjoy your coffee!

Misting water on the beans also helps stop static electricity from making a mess of the grindings when you remove them from the grinder. I draw the line a Kopi Luwak Coffee though. LOL

At the prices I saw for Kopi Luwak, I think it's time to raise civets rather than fish.

I buy sumatra mandheling from Volcanic Coffee and grind my own. Once I started doing that I won't go back to buying ground coffee ever again.

A dash of salt improves the flavor as well.

Eric, I notice the exact same thing with pepper. Commercial grind is tasteless compared with peppercorns you grind yourself.
