This wiper is from a seine effort in November of 2020. FishinRod assisted in the effort.
These were early 2020 hatch that snrub grew in his forage pond and we seined quite a few out to spread around. this particular fish was about 7.5" stocked into my pond about December 1st, 2020.

First recatch was May 2021 by a youngster with a smile...

In October of 2022 I managed to hook it again...

Tonight, (Dec 7, 2023) I got lucky again...at 4.5yrs of age.

Converting formulas say 24-1/32" and 7lbs, 14.7 oz., so well into the 110's RW.

Good job Snipe! (Growing AND catching.)

Being caught 3 times in just over three years is a testament to that fish NOT becoming hook shy.

Is that more typical of a large HSB compared to a large LMB? If so, seems like adding a few HSB as a "bonus fish" in ponds for recreational fishing would be a pretty good idea.

P.S. If Snipe is out catching wipers, do we now need to call him a sniper? grin

Sweet report!!!

I may have missed it, but was the fish tagged?

Good deal Snipe.

I did not fish much this year but when I did it was not uncommon to catch a few of the HSB. They have done ok.

As an interesting aside, that small forage pond (1/20th acre) that we seined of course we didn't get them all. So a few were left behind. I would sporadically (very sporadically) hand feed them. It appeared maybe about a dozen in there. I caught a few and transferred over to the big main pond. But the interesting thing was they were about half the size of the ones I caught from my old pond to the south that is across the seasonal creek. So they were definitely stunted growth compared to the ones we transferred to bigger waters (1 to 3 acres).

Thank you so much for coming and doing and managing that seining operation.

Since full retirement wife and I have been traveling so much the ponds have kind of got neglected. I just have not spent the time like I used to almost every day. But I figure they will be there for me as we get older and not able to travel so much.

Edit: those fingerlings that I raised were originally from Keo Fish Farms in Arkansas. Drove down and picked them up.

I sure hope my HSB grow like this. We are currently not quite to the first photo in the growth process and not 1 has ever attempted to touch a lure

Jason D, first catch was jig with a nightcrawler, 2nd catch was a 4" paddle tail grub, 3rd was on a 7-7.5" GSH.

That kind of addresses my question about HSB becoming hook shy.

That fish has only taken the hook on something that had never previously "harmed" it.

"learned behavior from a rewarding experience" based on the past 3 years of pounding GSH.
