I read a report about the bears coming back to Texas. TPWD(Game Wardens) say that virtually no excuse will be acceptable for harming them.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Sharing a video from Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee (from 2021) that really highlights how tough these wild hogs are!! (amazing the lifting and carrying power of the bear too!)

My IPad couldn’t show the whole thing. Did the bear finally win?

no. I believe it got tired and maybe irritated by all the onlookers and walked off before killing the hog.

I wonder if the hog recovered. What spoke to me is how ill equipped and inexperienced the bear seemed to be. Killing hogs isn't a primary source of food for bears which eat a lot of vegetation, fruit, and nuts. Take a mountain lion which makes its living killing ... that hog would have been toast.

If the hog made it away from the 'scene,' I'm guessing it would perish fairly soon after. Seems like it had a massive wound on it's neck.

Those hogs are very tough critters. I’ve had three get back up and haul a.. never to be seen again. 165 grain .308 through the shoulder.all over 200#s not sure how else to stop them. One was hit behind ear and lower. Laid there for a few minutes then got up and took off…

A mountain lion would have been on the windpipe and choked it out.

Any of you guys in the a south (or other areas) who don’t have hogs? Right now mine have left my place and gone to bless a neighbor with their company. We just filled corn feeders for deer season so that ought to bring them back. The neighbor decided not to bother with filling feeders this year.

Can you pick up any black bears or mountain lions from your local suppliers this time of year?

I believe that is the preferred Pond Boss strategy for dealing with invasive wild hogs. grin

All I know is this is a good reminder to carry a .44 when walking in the woods alone.

Poor babies are just misunderstood. It's my next door neighbor, and he keeps our side of the road hog free.

Around my neck of the woods, they call that tractor attachment a "bale fork".

I didn't realize that in Texas they are called a "boar fork"!

Right across the road is the Lake Fork river bottom. It's loaded with hundreds, if not thousands, of acres of tuberous plants, and old oaks loaded with acorns. They eat very well.
