These links provided by Ewest will take you to two good discussions regarding the use of crappie in ponds. The second one is our collective outstanding work on Crappie in ponds.NOTE: the acronymn for black crappie is BCP, not BC, BC = blue catfish. Other acronyms for crappie: BNCP = black nose crappie, HCP & HBCP = hybrid crappie, WCP = white crappie. https://forums.pondboss.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=13886https://forums.pondboss.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=62470 Crappie pond info: http://forums.pondboss.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=51193Pictures of dandy sized HYBRID crappie from teehjaeh57 - Nebraska http://forums.pondboss.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=488070#Post488070Commentary. The current practical application fishery science needs some brave sole with a smaller pond 0.5-1ac who is willing to try black crappie with HSB and or LMB as predators. This combination could teach every pond owner something. Pellet feeding of the predators on an as needed basis for the amount of predation pressure required on the BCP could be a successful management method.

Here is a very good discussion about artificial structure and how it relates to crappie management and production. http://magnoliacrappieclub.com/articles.asp?ID=4Note: this important statement in the discussion of the link: “While both black bass and crappie are nest-making species, different paths are pursued after the spawn,” Gilliland explains. “Bass fry come off the nest and look for cover — weeds, rock, gravel or brush. But little crappie tend to be pelagic. They move offshore to open water to feed on plankton. Fish attractors do not serve as nursery habitat for crappie fry.” This fact about very young crappie is why HSB are very good at reducing recruitment of young crappie.
