Yesterday the principle member of a web meeting was 15 minutes late, and as a result I spent the time talking with one of my company's database experts about fishing.
For 5 years, she has been using radio controlled boats to run a line and a baited hook or a lure around ponds and lakes to catch fish! I asked how use of a battery powered RC boat limited her fishing capabilities, and she told me that 1) there was about a 2 hour limit on battery life and 2) she has lost 2 RC boats when she hooked something big enough to pull them under water. When her battery is dead, she switches to a conventional rod and reel.
I wanted to ask if anyone here has also combined fishing with the challenge of piloting a radio controlled boat.

I know a guy that pulled a bait out in a river near the water discharge of a dam to catch monster catfish. The bait was clothepinned to the boat, when it got the the area the angler tightened the line to pull it free. The boat came back unattached to the line, and he said typically the angler was hooked up to a fish before the boat came back.
I just googled it, it is a thing now, fishing with RC boats.

They also now make specialty flying drones specifically for surf fishing!
Operate from the beach and use the camera to locate your targeted fish. When over the fish, the drone releases your lure and line. If you get a strike, you land the fish normally with your rod and reel.
