Pond Boss Forums AERATION Systems questions Do I need to aerate

Had a half acre pond put in last year.
Has a box level water management system.
It's spring fed.
Since the overflow is taken from the bottom and it constantly has overflow should I need to aerate?
I know I'll be able to tell eventually but thought someone could give me some insight.

What are your goals for the pond? An attractive swimming hole? Pushing the boundaries on fish production? Or somethng else?

Just stocked it with bass,bluegill,perch,skullcracker, and minnows.
Going to put a couple amurs in when vegetation starts.
Got a little peddle boat as well and going to be swimming in it too.

All yea, occasional fishing too.

What is the maximum depth? When you say "spring filled", is the spring water exposed to the air before it enters the pond? How much overflow do you have? i.e. how many gallons per hour?

It's 7 to 8 ft in the deepest.
It fed from a small spring fed stream and also runoff from a large hill.
Don't really know the gpm, it really varies.If we get a really dry spell, the stream quits flowing.

At that depth you probably really don't "need" to aerate. Later on this summer, I'd take water temp readings at 12" and right above the bottom in the deepest part. If the difference is more than 5-6 degrees, then you might benefit from aeration.
