Is there a one person boat that's commerically available that is light enough for 1 fairly strong man to handle by himself to do things in a pond? I don't want a kayak. Just want to throw it on the back of the truck, and drive down to the pond. I want to use it to fish or place structure in the pond.

A 10 foot John Boat sounds like what you want. Super light aluminum. I got mine at Academy.

Look at a Water Tender.

It is short and wide and light weight. You need the width to make it more stable in the water. I have one and it's seen up to a 10 hp Merc outboard. I have had over 600# (plus me at 200+ pounds) in the boat too, and there was still plenty of freeboard.

I believe you can also order them through Wal-Mart.

I can handle a 12 foot aluminum Jon Boat by myself. No motor - Oars are plenty for me on 1/2 and 2/3 acre ponds.

The Water Tender looks pretty nice. But a for sale next to the road or on line 10 or 12 foot aluminum flat bottom is tough to beat. I found one for fifty bucks.
I have a short v bottom one too that I sank in 8 feet of water because it would tip and desperately try to put one in the water.

I also have a 10 foot jon that very seldom gets used. I have flipped it over and found a skunk and various types of snakes. I do it and jump back now.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Shooter, have you ever considered tube fishing? Unlike the simple inner tubes of yesteryear, some of the modern ones are pretty nice.

PS Not recommended for alligator infested waters.

I have a small 12' pelican from Academy that does me well for a 1 person boat. I too have flipped it over to find surprises...while there has been a snake staring me down, the most memorable was a HUGE bullfrog that jumped onto my boot, fell over, and could barely get back up..I'm talking a pie plate here!

Small Jon boats are easy.

We have a fiberglass kayak. Much lighter and easier to carry than a Jon boat.

If you have just one pond that you plan to fish look at the mini pontoon boats. Put it in and never take it out. They can't fill up with rain water, never sink, have a platform comfortable for standing without tipping, and has room for fish structures in transit. Absolutely love ours!

Google Hotwoods Sport. It has 4 tubes and is very stable. Leave it on the pond yr round. Use a small trolling motor to push it around.

Be careful leaving the fiberglass boats out all year. I had one and the sun ate it.

Eastland, a boot full of frog is a classic.
