Hello,

I am normally working on my fishpond. However, this is more of a concrete pond question. I am creating a recirculating river system. This will be chlorinated water so no fish will be in this section. The ideal flow calculation has been set at just under 900 gpm / 54,000 gph. I am looking for a pump or pumps that can move that water in the most cost-effective way.

Please advise me of your recommendation for the most overall efficient type of water pump to move 900+ gpm.

I will be pumping pool water approx. 1000' away. The rise is approx. 6' over that distance.

Thank you,

J Armstrong

I am not an expert.

However, I believe a centrifugal pump is the most efficient type of pump for your application.

6' of lift plus some frictional flow losses should be right near the top of the best efficiency point (BEP) on some of those pump curves.

That would probably give you the most water flow per kWh of electricity.

The next question is: would a failure be critical or deadly?

If you live at the pond and the system can go down for a few days while you repair or replace the pump, then there are lots of affordable pumps available.

If expensive fish will start dying in just a few hours, then you need an expensive continuous duty pump AND you probably still need an emergency replacement pump.

Hope that helps. Good luck on your project!

Maybe some of our actual pump experts will also drop into your thread.

900gpm is the equivalent of a 120 acre center pivot with a 10" well pumped by a 413 V8 Chrysler engine rated at 350hp+.. are you sure you mean 900 per minute???? As-in 7 min to fill a semi tanker?

Didn't know if whitewater rafting would be an option on this project!

Possibly a log flume ride? That is definitely in the category of a river.
