A recent thread mentioned Moderators and what we do. BTW, why do we and ALLother sites have them?

Essentially, we are traffic cops. Unpaid, no medical insurance, 401k or retirement plan. There is no requirement for technical knowledge; generally own a pond and hopefully show some semblance of good sense. We delete some weird posts, off color or vulgarity (rare) and control those who get carried away or just don’t moderate themselves.
But, all of the mods are technically knowledgeable pond junkies.

Mods on this site go back to the very early days of Pond Boss. Only Bill Cody and I were here then, along with a smattering of others; mostly from Texas, Georgia and a bunch of Louisiana Cajuns that talked funny. Ewest showed up PDQ. Most sites have “mods”.

I got on early one morning and found some porn. Picture a bunch of naked old men laying in a circle and “connected”.
Yep, connected. At 8:00 I called the PB office and told a lady there what had happened. She logged on and just about panicked. I told her to tell Lusk. Well, Bobby was some where in the Adirondacks or some other place.

A couple of hours later Lusk surfaced, called me, introduced himself and said to get in touch with the web site developer and gave me his name and #. I did, the guy hit the delete button and the problem got solved.

A couple of days later he called and said we ( we?) need moderators. What is that??? I found out and we kicked around the idea of getting some others because it took more than he and I to watch it. Bill Cody and I are the only ones left of that bunch. Over time, others have been added. BTW, there is no test to tell whether we really have any technical knowledge. Well, We do need to be able to find the delete button.

If someone or a certain post gets altered or deleted, it will generally be after all of us sees and discusses the situation.
If it’s really bad, we hit the delete button and notify the others. Generally, the offender gets banned from the site.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Without a sense of urgency, Nothing ever gets done.

Nope, they have to send the info to the hosting company, and they are under no obligation to fix it in a timely manner.

If you want more of an update, try calling the Pond Boss Office @ (903) 564-6144 and ask for an update. Us Mods are in the dark as much as you are. Ask them for Bob's number and complain directly to the boss. Maybe that will get a faster response. I honestly don't know.
