I'm using an ATV sprayer I bought from tractor supply years ago and it did OK but the lack of spray distance is a problem. My pond has a lot of stumps and snags in it coupled with the lily pads and it is difficult to get a large section at a time.

I'm looking at some orchard high pressure sprayers but I was curious if others have tried and found one they preferred. I'm always skeptical of the "reaches 40 feet horizontal" as that was down hill with a tailwind likely. Some of the high pressure sprayers are 200-400 dollars and I'm fine with this as the cost savings alone are easy to cover considering the cost of paying someone to come in and do this with the large size of the pond.

I've just used the 25 gal sprayers but have swapped out the spray wands and the pump for larger ones that can handle more volume. I've seen some tanks rigged with 2 pumps that both pump to the same spray wand.

If you have a lot of lily pads, you might be wise to spray only a portion of them at a time. Too many decaying all at once could deplete oxygen.

Consider Hudson spray guns. They range in price from $100 to over $200, and are bullet proof. I've run multiple herbicides and insecticides through mine, and it still works like it did when I got it years ago. Many sprayers aren't happy with copper based chemicals, and corrode if not cleaned immediately after every usage. Hudson's don't care. Pencil stream to near fog.

You can look at them at Amazon. Just search HD Hudson.

Al, do you remember the model of your spray gun? What volume is your pump rated at?

Scott, it's a 38500 heavy duty gun, and it's rated at 800 psi. The pump I use is rated for 5.5 gpm, 60 psi.

I attach it to a 50' chem hose. It lets me wade out and extend the reach if needed.

I'm doing them in strips but I have so many my current one only does 15-20 feet on a good day and that's just not enough on a lake that's over 1,000 feet wide and the lily pads are in some places up to 40-60 feet from the shore.

How far will that gun spray. Not talking the reach of the hose but the gun itself? I've got a broadcast spot sprayer from tractor supply and with a light breeze I'm in the 10-15' range and closer to 10 but even under good conditions I might get 20 feet. I've seen some advertise 35' horizontal, I realize that's under perfect conditions but if I can consistently get low to mid 20s that's a big difference for me.

Al,

If Hbound sends you an 800 psi pump, do you think you can just go ahead and spray his lily pads all of the way from Texas? grin

If it can reach my neighbor's little yappy dog from a hidden spot in the woods, I'm in.

Yes!

Mine's had a rough life. This is info on the new models which are now rated for 1000 psi. I'm at that stage in life where I buy once, and be done with it. This gun should be my last.

"The Hudson JD9 Professional High-Pressure Spray Gun features stainless-steel construction, making it a heavy-duty solution for professionals who spray pesticides, herbicides and water-soluble fertilizers for a living. Works with pressures from 5 to 1,000 psi. 3/4"-dia. garden hose thread with removable 1/2"-dia. insert. Comes with a 3- to 8-gpm nozzle. Additional nozzles sold separately (Item # 139452, 139453, 139454, 139455, 139456)."

With the 5.5 gpm pump it will easily reach over 30'.

That will do just fine. If I can get close to consistent 30' spray I'll be thrilled.

Good deal. Be sure and have a pump that handles 5 gpm or more.

My 25 gallon sprayer is 12v. It sits nicely on the rear deck of my boat. I fill it with the livewell pump. With 20-25 foot range, I just sit up front on the trolling motor and spray away.
