Looking to acquire some BNM for my Ohio pond. I was unsuccessful in locating any in our nearby creeks. Just reaching out to see if anyone has any they would sell or knows anyone in the area. Trying to get a good forage base other than FHM for my small YP/RES/HSB pond.

Thanks!

I am no help on acquiring your BNM.

However, I will say that I am amazed at the seasonal species population shifts in my creek. I tend to catch a different array of minnow species from one month to the next. (And I am not yet that efficient at capturing my samples.)

If it is easy for you to keep sampling your creeks, my advice would be to keep trying while you are waiting to find commercial BNM.

Maybe you will get lucky, or maybe you will find a different species that could add some forage diversification to your pond.

Good luck!

Do you have a place to propagate the BNM with no other species present? I have BNM...

I suck at catching minnows in my "minnow" traps. Last time out, I caught GSF and bullheads. If I did have some minnows, I figure the larger fish might have eaten them in the confined space before I ran the trap.

I am doing better at seining. My best technique now is to set the seine up in the riffles above a pool with the float line suspended in the air to the upstream side. Throw some dog food in the seine and then splash through the pool. Pick up the weighted bottom line of the seine and then I can work through everything suspended in the net at a leisurely pace.

My creek is soft sand, so I just tie each rope of my little 10' seine to the top of a stick. I can jam them in the sand and make a nice basket.
