Howdy everyone,
I have a new pond about 3/4 of an acre in central Texas located between Bastrop & Lockhart.

I was talking with TJ and he suggested getting some beneficial native water plants started.
So I hoping for suggestions of types of native plants for this area and places where I can get them.

Thanks,
Tom

Here is a good thread for Georgia. Most of it should also apply to your pond.

Beneficial Vegetation

The thread includes links to some resources (one is for Oklahoma and should be helpful for you) and also some older Pond Boss threads for beneficial plants.

Good luck on your new pond project!

In that part of Texas, you'll soon see there's a natural seed bank. When your pond fills, it will take a little while, but you'll see plants begin to grow. My faves there are: American pondweed, or any of the other leafy species of pondweed. You're likely to get bushy pondweed, (Southern Naiad) and others. Bushy pondweed can get a little too thick and invasive, depending how your shorelines are. Shallow water can grow lots of it in thick masses.

If you want to buy plants, look at eelgrass, Vallisneria. It's a good one, too.
