A person can do a little better if they can extend the pond in one direction and have a "ramp" to get back out. Can make steeper sides on the rest of the pond then. Or even straight sides in the deeper depths if the soil will support it without caving off.
A person needs to think about safety though in case someone falls in the water having an escape route that is not too steep to climb out.
