Ive pondered over this a bunch and I think I have it figured out but seek affirmation..

I have 3 acre pond that is likely 8 feet deep average, 26 deepest

I have chara issues and for 2022 want to deal with early on.

1.5 gallons of Cutrine for 1.5 acre feet rate

I am assuming thats treated area, not total pond area. So if I treat shore out 3 feet and average depth is 2 feet..I calulate the shoreline distance times 3 feet times 2 feet divided by 43560 to get the acre feet im treating?

.36 acre feet?

Thank you all..

Liquid Cutrine Plus is only good for water that is less than 24" deep. If treating Chara it is usually recommended that granular Cutrine be used.

A. LARGE AREA TREATMENT (over 5,000 sq. ft.)
1. Identify form(s) of targeted bottom-growing algae (Chara / Nitella or Filamentous).
2. Estimate the height of targeted plant growth (in ft.) in the water column. This would be the distance from bottom to top of plants.
3. Calculate surface area (acres) of the treatment area (area of infestation):
Table 1 – Pounds of Cutrine® Plus Granular Algaecide to Apply per Acre
Form of Algal Growth Height of Plant Growth (feet)
Bottom Filamentous 1 2 3
Chara / Nitella 30 60 90
Bottom Filamentous 20 40 60

The answer to your question is yes.

I inject it sub-surface at a rate of 1.9 Gallons of liquid Cutrine Plus per acre/foot

You are going to spend lot on Cutrine. Instead consider buying grass carp(GC) and tilapia. Both will eat Chara and GC will live several years long term to consume Chara. Although in my experience tilapia will eat Chara more readily compared to GC. Both species will complement each other. Tilapia denuded my Chara infested pond last year. Plus you can catch and eat the tasty Tilapia at the end of summer and Cutrine does not taste very good. You kill all the Chara and its biomass will very likely be replaced by big growths of filamentous algae or the dormant / latent 'spores' (oogonium) of Chara will resume growth. You now know how fast Chara can grow in your pond. Cutrine suppresses the Chara temporarily. Nature demands some sort of plant to always grow to utilize the AVAILABLE plant stimulating nutrients. Nature abhors a vacuum.

Bill, I have a customer that caught and ate one of his Triploid Grass Carp and he said that it was the best fish that he's tasted out of his pond. The only problem he had was trying to get out all the bones. He found a YouTube video showing how to do it after the fact.
