Hello.

Are there floating nets for Cormorants.
Not a floating fishing net, but a net say 20x20 feet completely floating on the surface, that we can leave there all the time.

A+

I think the large surface area of your net will quickly becomes its own "micro-environment" in your pond.

There are lots of threads on the forum about cormorant defenses. I believe this usually involves some ropes our wires suspended at intervals above the surface of the pond so they do not have enough space to lift off of the water. That solution is usually effective, but ugly.

Are your trying to avoid the "ugly"?

Tnued in for anwers.

Between the Osprey and Comorants, we're done stocking any more Grass Carp.
We lost 7 in one week alone cause the carp are too stupid to stay off the surface. They literally troll the surface like they are fishing for prey, when they are the prey.

Our pond is much too large for solutions like nets.

What size did you stock and how long after stocking were they caught by the birds?

Hello.

Is it true that when Geese have their young, they don't tolerate Herons and Cormorants.

I know Swan Pairs will pretty much attack any unwelcome water fowl in the pond. I`m sure geese will do this too, but to lesser extent.

Mating pairs will also fight off multiple geese if needed. I've had them pen 15-20 in a corner, and harass them nonstop from sundown to sunlight.

They'll harass Cormorants if they land, but that's rare. Here at least, cormorants avoid geese.

They don't like GBH because they will pick off a small gosling if possible and eat it. I've seen GBH walking around in an alfalfa field after it was cut looking for mice or baby rabbits.
