The larger the aquarium the better. I think you could imitate stream conditions. For starters I would place a power head at one end of the tank and push water toward the other end of the tank. This would crate current that would imitate current in a stream. If you are real adventurous and creative you could build a small 8ft long raceway out of plywood with inside coated with epoxy or a plastic liner. Water flows in one end (headwater) and exits the other end (mouth). At exit water gets filtered for solids and chemicals then reenters the inlet headwater,

Thanks for all of the great advice, everyone!

I do like tinkering and those could be some interesting projects.

P.S. If our basement is full of fish raceways next winter, and my wife takes umbrage, then I can blame you guys right?

Guys?

Dig a room under your garage, or dig it before the garage is built, and put the raceways there. One member here did that.

If it wasn't for those darn "knock-off" imported minnows, my ponds would be awesome!

Heck, I should just build a series of minnow apartments in the backyard! Does anybody happen to know the going rental rates that minnows can afford on their current salaries?

A circular or oval tank and a powerhead might work too.
