Hello.
Are there any members here who have a forage pond with Crayfish and Fathead minnow and who use vegetables from your garden to feed them. I have been doing it for a few years.

Do you just throw the scraps to the crayfish?
Because my wife will fight the crayfish for carrots, zucchini, and cucumbers fresh from the garden!

I don't currently have a forage pond but am planning on building one. thanks for the info, I would'nt have realized that they would consume overflows of veggies. I will keep that in mind.
All the really good ideas I've ever had came to me while I was milking a cow.

Great pictures, Azteca!
I had never previously heard of someone running a "cooking show" for the benefit of their pond creatures.

Cool photo! Maybe the pigs and the crawdads could share.

My pigs *dont* share. And i've got more coming this weekend. Lots of work to do! But also I'm working from my hotspot looking at what I think are bass swirls wanting to throw in my rod....
Someone give me a couple million bucks so I can retire to raising pigs and catching hogs!

I think if you get your recipes right, then your chain of restaurants serving bacon-wrapped fish should earn you a "couple million bucks" every year!

My herd of chickens usually get any spoils that come from the victory garden.
When a chicken folds from old age or varmint damage the crays in my bait pond get the chicken. Carcasses from butchered fish/critters go in the bait pond. They don't last long.
I've got a few summer squash that were on the vine when the plants croaked due to high temps over the past couple weeks. I'll toss those in the bait pond this evening and report back in a few days.

Augie,
Do you ever use your own chicken meat (when they start to get stink) when you go after big catfish?
Or do you do better with live bait for the river cats?

I use live bait if it is available. Also use a lot of asian carp that we catch out of the river. It's against the rules in Misery to return those to the water alive, even if you shove a 10/0 circle hook through them first, so they are used either chunked or flayed depending on their size.
I'm not fishing for channel cats out there, so I don't mess around with any sort of rotten smelling baits.

Thanks Augie.
My grandfather used to be my river catfishing expert. (He passed away quite a few years ago.)
I hope it is not an imposition to use you as "my" new expert? You have now given me good advice several times!

One of my gramps had a commercial license. He was an expert. If he was still around I know he'd be telling me every day that I'm doing it wrong. lol
