Thanks Shorty. I was thinking so, but we’ve never seen them in these numbers.

9 yr old pond, 1 ac, 15' deep.
RES, YP, GS, FHM (no longer), HBG (going away), SMB, and HSB (only one seen in 5 yrs) Restocked HSB (2020) Have seen one of these.
I think that's about all I should put in my little pond.

I'd say your RES pulled off a really good spawn in 2020. I see lots of fish tacos in your future.

I transferred another cage full of BG/HBG from the cow pond to the bait pond. ~150 or so ranging from 2"-5".

Wow! Wouldn't have expected that in this heat.

We seeded grass and a clover-chicory food-plot blend (in different spots) around the new pond yesterday because they predicted over an inch of rain early this week. Now they are only predicting trace amounts of rain over the next 10 days. All the best-laid plans...

I have zero FA in my pond at the moment but most of the small ponds around here have lots of it around the edges. I pulled more large golden shiners from the pond this weekend, over 200 of them in the last three weeks, so far 328 have been removed since May 29th. Some of my early hatch GSH are almost 2" already so it will be interesting to see if I have removed enough shiners to the point where the FA starts to take hold or not.

Are there any downsides to adding GSH to a BG/LMB pond? I have algae growing in this pond pretty bad since the beaver ate up so many waterlilies. I though that I might wait for the lilies to respread, but perhaps GSH might work sooner. I have GSH in my YP/SMB pond that I could try and catch and use as stockers. My worry is that they might compete effectively with the BG.

Drove the 4-wheeler down a slope at pond to rake out a plum of FA last eve, front right tire fell in a hole and rig flipped over right on top of me in about 2' of water. Had me pinned against a slab of concrete under water. "somehow" I got it off of me and got my head above water.
Didn't feel any panic until I climbed back up on bank and sat down.. then it hit me how bad that could have been.

You never know when something like that will happen. You can never be too careful around water. A friend of a friend just drowned jumping in after his son who had fallen out of a paddle boat. Kid had a life vest on and is fine...40 year old father, no vest...left 2 or 3 kids and a wife.

Glad all is well with you!

I know the feeling. I seeded clover in a 1 ac strip of land, then the rain evaporated. We got a bit a few days ago but the germination is VERY patchy, and I think I will have to overseed it later when there is more rain in the forecast. I hate buying seed twice!!

In my opinion, no. The bass might eat all you stock though. Can't hurt to try!

WOW! Glad that you are OK. I am really leery of driving things on slopes, and carrying anything in a bucket on the tractor if the ground is uneven. Had a guy moving a bundle of concrete mesh with a forklift and the same thing happened, it tipped over, he didn't keep his feet inside, the leg that he stuck out to try and stabilize the mess got folded under the forklift. Had to take another lift to get him out - compound fracture.

Whoa Snipe. That is crazy and scary. Glad you are ok. Friend of our died this spring when his brand new zero turn mower flipped over on top of him into the pond he was mowing around. Way to stay calm in a horrendous situation. I’d say a guardian angel was on duty.

Glad to hear you are OK Ken. This reminds of a time canoeing when I thought I would be pulled under a snag capsizing the canoe. Life is surreal in the moments after.

Kenny, thanks for sharing that close call with us. We can use reminders.
I'm grateful you came through okay. Unharmed?
It is so interesting how our minds react to such a threatening situation. Your retaining your cool through that was commendable.

Funny how at the moment in time, it doesn't seem like a big deal until you realize what really happened..
No broken bones but a couple of bruised ribs and a gash about 12" long from my RH butt cheek up my back from hitting the corner of a broken piece of concrete habitat.. Not bad considering.. Even got the 4-wheeler running again today.
Appreciate the kind words guys. I'll be avoiding that corner of the pond from now on.

Glad to see you are ok. 4 wheelers can be dangerous and when dumped into the pond on top of you they can be even more dangerous.

For me, the pond is down about 18" visibility is 18" and this is the first year I have not turned the water well on. Why? Because my son-in-law ran over the waterline with the bush hog. Have not gotten around to patching it because it has been just too dam hot outside for the repair work.

Do not judge me by the politicians in my City, State or Federal Government.
