Yes! I figured that out! It's embarrassing but I went to PETSMART and bought every minnow (Ruby) that they had! I put them in two months ago, and they are still there! That's a win! Now there is a lot more wildlife but I am getting weeds so my new concern is putting something n for weeds that is safe for wildlife! I was sort of wondering why we don't all put crawfish in as well?

Will, the bushy pondweed is back. Just two weeks ago i saw very little Southern Naid in the pond and then went out day before yesterday made a cast and hooked up with a nice 3lb lmb. It got hung up but got it in and the fish was covered up in the weed. This just sucked, i hate the weed it is just hard to control at my pond. I am going back in a day or so and add some Aquathol super K to the area. Keeping my fingers crossed plans are to make it around in the boat and see just how bad it is. Even with grass carp 15 added last year and with Sonar treatment that crap is still there. I just can't get a handle on how many carp survived the Texas freeze and apparently i must not have added enough Sonar or it was diluted back by all the rain we got this spring. A good note was the lmb was fat and healthy even better than I expected post-spawn.

Depending on how much water entered the pond in the first 3 weeks after applying the Sonar, it could have diluted it. Talk to your pond guy, he can send a water sample out to SePro for a FAST Test at week 2 to have them determine if the Fluridone has been diluted, and if it has, how much to add to bring it back up to the correct level.

What was the water temp when the Sonar was added to the pond?

Thanks esshup. Water temp? With my CRS frown I don't recall offhand, but am thinking it was in the 60s based on the time of year i added it. So, now my surface temp is in the mid 80's and I figure I am in the treat small areas at a time. I already have a bag of aquathol K but not sure what I will use after it is gone.

Yesterday we round baled the field in between our two ponds, and watched the local osprey go fishing.

Went out in the boat and spot treated about 1/2 acre with Aquathol Super K for the Southern Niad that is still in the pond. Also discovered the aeration had gone down because the elec breaker had tripped. So it had been a week since i last saw it up and running. I have been in Venice La Red Fishing all week. Restarted the aeration with the usual startup plans. I hate that.

How'd the red fishing go? I love to eat them grilled on the half shell!

Sweated in the sun today. Cleared out defective feeder, assembled new TH feeder as replacement, filled with feed.

Around noon, almost zero feeding reaction from LMB or HSB. CNBG still willing to eat, however. Pond level lowest it's been in many months, maybe four inches below full pool of ten days ago.

We took considerable time cooling off & drinking lots of fluids after efforts. Hot! shocked

I made about 6 trips around the pond on the mower before the lightening showed up.

After some hard rains overnight, about 3 1/2 to 5 inches depending on where you live, went out and caught a few CC and BG, probably lost as many CC as we caught, they are doing good and getting bigger by the day, landed two that were three+ lbs apiece, 1 was 3lb and 2 oz and the other was 3 lbs and 1 oz and another just under 3, am definitely going to have to take some better gear out there, its about 25 miles from home so I don't leave my best gear there in case its stolen but definitely am going to have to upgrade a few things, these suckers have some fight and know where the brush is. a lot of fun though even though Im not that much of a catfisher man other then on the river, and some superb eating.
Their stomachs were loaded with crawfish, although my pond is loaded with baitfish, a gazillion of them, but did not find any baitfish in them, only crawdads, only one had signs of fish food in him, I do have one feeder where I have it going off once a day for 8 seconds but that doesn't go very far in a big pond, they have it all cleaned up in under a minute. pleased with results so far, also caught one LMB that was stocked as fingerlings last fall and he was a good 8 inches long and super fat.

Great report. I personally think that fish who've been on a crawfish or crab diet taste better than those that eat mostly other fish. Part of that might be my Louisiana roots, however.

Caught and saw LMB of all sizes for the 1st time!! Caught a 18 inch 3.2 pounder. Caught a 10 inch lmb. Saw a school of about 6 lmb that were only about 4 inch long. And I hooked up with a huge lmb that I couldn't even turn before she threw the bait back at me!! Visibility is still about 30 inch on secchi dish. And my new burmuda grass seed has sprouted and growing strong!! Caught lots of 9 inch cnbg but must admit they look a little skinny. I now have thousands of those "shiners" minnows all over the pond and lmb busting all along the banks edge! Had grandkids over and they had a blast. Nice to be able to see fish in the water. Still not running aeriation and pond is in best shape it has ever been! Very active pond!! Pond is about 4-6 inch low right now.

Have you noticed your CC getting hook shy or stop biting after you catch one? And thanks for mentioning the crayfish consumption, I was contemplating adding them to my Catfish pond, but wasn't sure how'd they do, and if they'd overpopulate without any LMB.

New feeder working fine. Friend & his ten year old grandson fished with success on a relatively mild day for this time of year, had a lot of fun. Kept one 9 inch bluegill for the table, along with half a dozen undersize LMB. Caught & released several giant CNBG, including my PB female.

TP were thick at the feeders, something I had not observed in previous years. Several had quite beautiful rose-tipped fins. Hope they make lots of babies for LMB & HSB to dine upon!

Bushy pondweed growing fast now, shallow areas are getting tough to fish. Despite 90 lbs of fertilizer earlier in the year, water clarity around 40 inches. May have to call for herbicide treatment again, though I don't really want to do so.

Frank, sorry to hear about you fighting the BPW again. I am not sure I can let any of it get started back because it is so invasive and will flat out take over the pond and cause a fish kill. I used a sk of Aquathol super k for spot treating right now, I just hope it works. After using Sonar to kill it off or in an attempt to kill it off I was told no other plant will grow in the treated water to take up the nutrients. And I would love to get my APW back up and growing. I also found two large Red Swamp crawfish from under the boat. When I moved the boat from the shoreline and into the water. I always look to see what is under the boat and being careful when I move it because snakes like to rest under the boat and I don't like snakes. I did like seeing the crawfish because it has been around 2 yrs since I last added any to the pond

Caught a bunch of catfish and transported them to a neighbor's pond. Getting ready to pump the rest of the water out before it dries up.pond was built in 73 and has never gone dry. I guess it's a good excuse to remove the muck(6') from the pond and recompact it

Just one word of advice: Remove the muck when it's dry. Otherwise it is very heavy & requires a lot more work & money to get rid of. Might be good garden soil, too.

Awesome fun! I caught a 10 lb red on a fly once and it was the best flyrod fight of my life. Those 30 & 40 lb bulls must have been fantastic!

Re the bushy pond devil weed, I'm in the same boat. After killing it last year, it didn't come back early, so I thought it would be okay. Silly me! If it would just stop growing right now, it would be beneficial, but I know from sad experience that won't happen in my rather clear BOW.

Maybe I should let it go & put in my 24 permitted grass carp. They won't control it now, but next year will help. Don't want to keep using herbicide annually if I can help it.

Angie, those are beauties.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Anthropic yes I agree I have been dredging it out for years with a trash pump. Very slow process. Now I am using my excavator to put out what I can reach set the muck on the dry soil around the pond with our dry conditions and heat it is manageable after only a few days. It will be different when I have access to the whole bottom of the pond
