What do I have here? This pond is 1/2 acre in southern middle Tennessee and is 2 years old. I didn't have this growing last year. I have sprayed algaecide a couple times in the last 3 months and this stuff has started to take over. Makes fishing very difficult. The light green floating mats are Filamentous Algae. Spraying them every 2 weeks with Cutrine Plus will work. The plant in your hand looks like bushy pondweed. Reward/Tribune, Aquathol K/Aquathol Super K, Hydrothol 191 (can be toxic to fish if used or applied improperly), or Fluridone (Sonar A.S.) all will work on that.

I have sprayed a mix of Cutrine plus and Diquat which I was told would do the job ( I didn't find Aquathol K or others you suggested) with dish soap as a surfactant twice over the last 2 weeks. The algae has greatly diminished but the pondweed remains. Should what I have work on it eventually or should I just go ahead and order one of the herbicides you suggested?

Why not use a surfactant that is made for the application?

What rate did you apply the Diquat?

"Why not use a surfactant that is made for the application?"

Because I don't know things lol, I will get one for this application smile

"What rate did you apply the Diquat?"

I realized that this was my problem soon after I posted my question. Through my google research I learned that aquatic applications require much more per gallon of water than land applications. I just sprayed again and at the correct rate this time smile

Forgive my ignorance, I'm still new to all this stuff haha. I really appreciate the people in this forum for being so helpful and nice, especially to newbs like me.

Not a problem!

That's one of the reasons why they put such detailed labels on the herbicides. wink

I have just started spraying small areas of my pond with a diquat herbicide. How long before you noticed results? Another way of asking the same question, how long before you worked to remove the dead plants?

Thanks.

Brad

If mixed at the correct concentration, and applied at the correct rate, usually plants will show signs of stress in a day or so.
