These pictures came from a fellow pond bosser ( FLAME). Just wanting a correct ID of these please.

Thank you Rusto for posting these photos to get me some help!! This is the first year since 2015 when I stocked fathead minnows that I have any kind of minnow showing up! There are probably thousands of them and all along the banks in 1-3 foot of water. Mostly hang out around my many stands of sawgrass along the shore. They LOVE to run out and feed on the feeder "dust" particles in schools of probably 100 or more but...they can be seen any time of day along the banks. Last year I did fish for LMB with live bait from local bait store. They were large shiners. I guess I ended up dumping 3 dozen in my 2 acre pond because I still could'nt get my Florida LMB to bite! Hah! Could that be what these are? They are about 1 and 1/2 inch long now and have a V-shaped tail. Can someone please tell me what I have? I have no creeks that feed my pond. Just runoff from up a hill. Thanks in advance. This is the 1st year I have had great stands of vegetation along the banks. I suppose that is helping them survive.

My vote is on a golden shiner.

I'm guessing some sort of shiner, keep in mind that sometimes small fish are very hard to identify. Better pictures showing the fin shapes and other details would help.

It is interesting that the USF&W sheet does not have the commonly occurring golden shiner on it. I also think that Flame's small shiners are golden shiners for several reasons. 1. GS is a very common shiner sold as bait. 2. It is a very high probability that the GS will spawn in a pond to produce the hundreds of shiners Flame is observing. 3. Fish in the pictures closely resemble the golden shiner. and 4. Very few native shiner species will spawn in ponds without access to a creek habitat or moving stream-like water.

The chart was created by the Gavins Point National Fish Hatchery, golden shiners on the chart would be good. This chart might be geared towards minnows that can be found in creeks and rivers rather than ponds..

I'll have to catch some more and spread the fins out for my photo. I may wait and see how much larger they get. Once I do that , the chart will help tremendously! Thanks everyone.

I have my doubts, but I could be wrong. A more clear picture would be helpful. Golden Shiners have a lateral line that dips way down into their belly and they aren't two tone like that. What about Notropis atherinoides.?

Agree with Bill. Think those are immature GSH.

So GSH is golden shiner? What does the H stand for? Hybrid?

Thank you sir for clearing that up for me. I just caught a 10 inch 0ne pound CNBG! Big ones have been elusive to me. The little ones always get the bait first. Caught him on a rattletrap!
