My pond management people tell me I need to remove 150#'s of BCP from my 5 acre pond per year to prevent over population. I think we got a little over 100#'s last year. We are starting this year off pretty well. Last Sunday my guests took 29 and this past Sunday my son and friends took another 36.
We have had this place for going on 7 years and it has always produced copious quantities of BCP. I am only recently getting serious about keeping track of the poundage.

Blue Catfish or Black Crappie? I think Black Crappie are BCP and Blue Catfish are BC on this forum, but I could be wrong.

Making progress toward our annual harvest goal. This past weekend was a friend and I’s personal best of 91 fish from around my dock.

Pretty good sized crappie
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

What a crappie report..... Gee Sunil I didn’t think it was that crappie! Though you probably felt crappie when you wrote it. I'll be here all week. Try the veal.

That's awesome. How big is your pond? I'm thinking about stocking BCP into my future BC/HSB pond (soon), primarily for BC forage, but I'd take a mess of them like this to eat as well.

jim100, it was crappie humor.
Those who pronounce it as "craw-pee" can't appreciate it. Take my wife...

I say "Crappy" just like its spelled, but apparently I might be wrong? The word crappie comes from Canadian French crapet “sunfish.” Speakers of English borrowed the word first as crappé [krop-é], pronounced like “crop-ay,” which then spawned the variant croppie [króp-e]. (From a Google search) Eh, I can live with "Crawpee," as long as they don't call a Bluegill a Brim/Bream. From a former New Yorker that now lives in NC, nothing drives me more crazy than "brim."

Crawpee crappie or crappy, or sak a lait, as my friend from cajun country calls them, no matter how you say it, thats one super nice mess of fish and some of the best eating,, having to keep their numbers in check by catching and eating that mess is one of the best problems anybody ever had!
All the really good ideas I've ever had came to me while I was milking a cow.

... with their "Green Perch". Yeah, that one threw me for a loop the first time I heard that. I watch a lot of fishing videos, and a lot of Texans refer to Bluegills and other panfish as Perch. My OCD can only handle so much! Thanks Theo, now you got me all fired up for the day

Is a green perch the same thing as a ditch pickle?

Is a green perch the same thing as a ditch pickle? Do you watch Kayak Catfish on Youtube? That's what he calls a LMB (Ditch Pickle). I thought Green Perch was anything in the Bluegill family, but I could be wrong. I've read that people in Mississippi call LMB "Green Trout" lol. Edit: Nope, apparently the term Ditch Pickle was coined in 2010 when a fly-fishing tournament in Vermont was called the Ditch Pickle Classic.

Haven't heard of Kayak Catfish. I'd say the term ditch pickle has probably been in use since about forever, but the first guy to write it on the interwebs gets the credit. lol
If you're ever feeling ornery, drop that phrase in a conversation with a tournament angler, and tell him how good they are to eat. ;-)
