Our pond has maintained it's water level thanks to SoilFloc and vegetation is all around. Minnows and tadpoles abound. This week we finally stocked our pond with 20 HSB, 40 CC, 20 HB and added 2 lb of fh to our existing minnows.

While sitting on the deck feeding the fish, I noticed this little family of fish darting back and forth under this rock, obviously spawning and defending their territory. They don't look like, or behave like any fish I know of. They have a dark head and silver body with black markings.

I attached a video, if you can make it out. If you stop the video you can make out the fish. What are they? Are they good for the pond?

I can't see them real well but they look like FHM to me but don't take my word for it. The first time I seen a FHM in spawning colors I thought I had some type of new minnow in my pond that I didn't put there.

That's them! I looked up spawning colors for fatheads and that's it exactly. Thanks!

It is wild how much different they look during spawn.
