Pond Boss Forums STOCKING A NEW POND Types of fish to choose SMB spawning sites

I have seen a lot of pictures on here, checking to see if there are suggestions that I have the right concept. The water will raise up so this will be in 2 feet of water.

Does there need to be trees or anything else close by to these types of spawning areas? some old brick are okay...or use more natural rock?

I have some that have some concrete and cinder blocks as some back wall coverage.

I've seen them in similar structures and also ones with lesser 'backwalls' in my pond, spawning.

That should work if the area inside the wall is large enough. How big is that area? I've made them with help from TJ on how to design them and they work. I used just 1 cinder block high wall on the shore side, IIRC I used 5 of them on one pallet to make the wall.

It is kinda of high and will probably lower it some. That brown circle is 18 inches across, so 22-24 inches from wall to wall there.

It should be close to double that width/diameter, I'd feel comfortable if it was 36" dia.

yes, on the inside of the circle, not the outside.

I built a few like this and my SMB spawned.

Thanks, I like that it is more open. I was thinking it had to be more closed off on the sides.

How deep are these beds in your pond?

Mine are at 3' to 6'.

SMB can spawn anywhere from 1 foot to 25 feet depending on circumstances. I would make some beds from 1 foot to 4 feet assuming no significant water level drops. Deeper will work if the water is clear.

2'-6' depending on the water level in my pond. I will take a picture of the beds that I made tomorrow. I forgot today.
