I have been thinking of adding YP to my pond, but wonder what would be a good plant for the spawn.
Who has YP and have you added specific plants for the spawn? thanks!

I didn't put in any plants for YP spawning, but have a lot of varied structure (timber, black plastic water pipe, tires, and concrete culverts - I don't know which they like best) at assorted depths that they have used to successfully spawn apparently every year.
For the first few years I place tree branches around the perimeter at ice-out (a classic YP spawning aid), but never saw any egg ribbons on them. My YP seemed to prefer the artificial structure farther out from shore.
This time of year, when the YP spawn, the only plants growing significantly in my ponds are FA.
