We bought a property with an 8 acre lake that is about 14 foot deep. We've only had it since November and I'm wondering what plant we are dealing with and how to get rid of it. We have used Cutrine plus in other ponds. Thanks for the help in advance.
If the picture is one that you grabbed and NOT a picture of the plant in your pond, pay close attention to the top right picture in the Chara description that compares both side by side.
What works on Chara won't work on Coontail, because Chara isn't a plant, it's an algae.
It is a picture from the plant in our pond. Thanks for the links. I'm still not 100% if it is coontail. Comparing it to the picture from the link, it doesn't seem thick enough to be coontail. We haven't seen the pond in Spring and Summer. Will it look different then? What do you think it is?
I think it IS young coontail by the forked leaves. Just not bushy like a coon's tail yet. Cutrine Plus will be needed to kill any algae growing on it, then the diquat will kill the coontail itself.
