I have a snow plow for my tractor but am considering one for my ATV for lighter snows and tighter areas. Anyone have thoughts or recommendations? Brand? Size? Electric/winch/manual lift?

I bought a swisher plow for my 660 grizzly. No snow to try it out yet. Here a video of one doing it work. Made in USA!

I have been using an older Yamaha with a 350cc engine in it for 10 years now on a 1200 foot long gravel driveway. I use an electric winch to raise and lower the Rhino plow.

Make sure and get a throwing plow (angled) not a shoving plow. The speed and momentum is what makes it work.

Lessons learned: If you have an electric winch, upgrade the battery with as many cranking amps as will fit in the socket. Otherwise the winch will quickly wear out batteries.

So apart from batteries the only maintenance has been oil changes.

350CC is a good size as it is not so heavy that you cannot float it on the snow to hit one layer at a time. It is able to straddle the piles on the sides when you get too much snow and shove it out of the way to make room for new snow. A heavy machine will sink too much in deep snow requiring moving too much snow at once, or setting the frame on the snow bank with spinning wheels.

Cost of ownership is VERY low, probably the most economical way to clear snow. I cleaned our 15 inches up two days ago, got the vast majority in under an hour. The real problem was the end of the driveway where the snow plows had dumped the compressed snow. The ATV was too light to make it through and would keep spinning due tot he plow angle. I had to chisel several inches at a time off of it to make it thin enough to blow through. That took an additional hour.

ps. Second use was encouraging potty training with my son. 1 ride for 1 successful attempt.

I'm looking at doing the same thing, for exactly the same reasons.

What I haven't been able to determine is if I can use a standard ATV mount on my AmericanSportWorks Land Master LM400 (basically the same as the Chuckwagon from Home Depot and Lowes, or the Yardmaster 400 from Menards). These are side by sides, with dump beds , using a Honda 390 CC engine.

The Swisher mount and blades are about 60% of the cost of the AmericanSportWorks kits.

I assume I can use my present winch on whatever blade I use.

I built a 6' snowblade, as well as the mount, for our Kawasaki mule. It works great, and really moves the snow....got a workout over the last couple of days.

I've had a Cyclecountry plow (48") on a Kawasaki 400 and now have a Warn plow (52") on a '98 Polaris 300 with a Warn winch. Definately recommend the winch!

Both brands are very economical and good quality. It's the push-tubes that you have to be concerned with on some of the cheaper models as they can just fold up on ya if you hit something solid.

The Warn Plow with mount I purchased just a month ago and went with Warn due to good reviews and cost. The entire plow assembly including the center-mount (recommended) was around $350 with free shipping through Amazon. A friend bought his through the local dealer and it was just under $600. The plow has 3 "pushing" settings and 2 right/left settings. You can ALMOST adjust the right & left without getting off the bike. I say ALMOST because I know it can be done but when your boots are slick and you're trying to lean over the front of the bike to reach the lever,,,,,during a blizzard,,, well,,, you COULD end up taking a nosedive. As far as trial and error, I tried and erred I just wanted to see if I could plow the whole area without getting off my a$$. Lesson learned!

We finally had our first snow so it got it's first test on a 4-6" snow including drifts, passing with flying colors! My driveway is gravel and a little over 200 yds long.

Moose County Plow. The second picture doesn't have a good sense of scale, but the pile on the left is about 5 feet high. I can just run the ATV and plow right up the pile and dump over the edge. If I set the plow high, I can smack off the top to make room for more.

High priced on this site, but here is the plow I highly recommend. It allows jetting down the driveway at 10MPH and tossing snow away from the driveway at least 5 feet. I purchased the whole plow set for about the price these guys are asking for just the blade.

I have a lot of winter to go this year, so it should be interesting to see where I have to put snow as time goes on. Most snow this early since I have lived here.

Thanks for the advice. I just ordered a Warn setup with a 54" tapered blade and an electric lift. $684 total.

We were supposed to get 1-2" of snow yesterday - wound up with 8". I used the Warn plow for the 1st time. Money well spent. It cleared my 2,000 foot driveway in no time and without a problem. Tomorrow's forecast is for an additional 3-5". I'm ready!
