Two cormorants spotted at pond. Not much I can do on main lake, but I'm wondering if dyeing my 1/8 acre forage pond might be smart. Would it discourage the stupid water turkeys if they couldn't see their prey well?
Already planning on stringing brightly colored twine across forage pond, dye would be the suspenders in belt & suspenders.
Would dye hurt the fish -- likely CNBG and/or RBT? Would they still rise to the feed? Any thoughts?

God I hate those things. I have not seen them yet this Fall/Winter, but I am sure it won't be long. I put up a bunch of reflective tape last weekend. I am not there this weekend. I wish I could call in an A-10 Wathog when they are on the pond. anthropic let me know how the " Dye Dye Water-Turkey" experiment goes.
Fishing has never been about the fish....

Thanks, Zep. I'll let you know. Maybe tape will keep most of them off, dye will make them less successful when they try.

I don't think it will help. That one pond that had the bird problem had a secchi disk reading of 12" due to a heavy phytoplanktom bloom.

I can say that applying daily pressure on them when spotted will move them at my place. But you can only do it when they are on the water. And i can see were a larger sized pond /lake you might not be able to get to them.
Do not judge me by the politicians in my City, State or Federal Government.

anthropic, a dye like Aquashade can actually make the pond water clearer. I use it in my hatchery pond for that purpose when blooms get a little aggressive. EDIT: It doesn't hurt adult CNBG or RBT, but it doesn't do their fry any favors. I can say that applying daily pressure on them when spotted will move them at my place. But you can only do it when they are on the water. And i can see were a larger sized pond /lake you might not be able to get to them. An arched shot with 3 1/2" steel goose loads will reach out to them. It won't kill them, but it sure makes them unhappy enough to scat PDQ.
