I have a 1/8 acre forage pond that needs protection from cormorants. Anybody have any suggestions? I can lay the netting on the water, if it won't degrade there.

Just string some mason twine over the pond about 4' high off the water and every 5-10-15 feet, shore to shore. Brightly colored so they see it. Laying netting on the water could act as a gill net to the fish.....

I did it this year on my 1 acre pond. They had hit me the previous year and just about cleaned me out. I used electric fence tape and T posts a couple of ft. above the water.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Dave, what kind of pattern did you make on your pond? How much tape did you use?

Thanks, never thought about gill net issues! That should not be an issue in a forage pond, unless the mesh is small.

One acre pond and it took a couple of rolls of the tape. What size or how much. Don’t know. I drove TPosts about 25 ft apart. Then the kids got in a boat with trolling motor and went from side to side pulling it tight and wrapping it. About 3 ft above the water. With no rain, it’s now about 4 ft I got the tape fromWalmart mail order. It took less than 2 rolls to do the whole thing. It’s kind of a triangle pattern but it covered it. Esshup recommended heavy duty fishing line that is colored but I thought that might stretch and sag. The tape is also kinda colored and also has just enough wire to keep it rigid. I doubt that sagging would be a problem but...
Assuming that it works, I’ll leave it up until after Spring migration.
Get on the web and look up electric fence tape. The picture makes the roll look a lot bigger than it is. Not real expensive.
