I have a 5+ acre pond that has milfoil around the shoreline and in some areas toward the middle. I have removed tons of it by raking it out in the areas that I have a clear shoreline. I am planning on using Clipper to eradicate it per the advice that I've read on this forum. My question is, does the time of year matter when I treat milfoil with Clipper? I am located in middle Ga and did not want to treat the milfoil if it went into some type dormant state or something. I look forward to removing this weed from my pond and welcome any advice that you may have.

Thanks,

Dean

I'd hit it in the Spring just before it really gets going, I believe this is it's most vulnerable period and treating early can provide control for the rest of the season. You can treat later in year when it's mature but believe it requires a denser application for control, just more $$.

Don't rake out the milfoil. If the plant is broken into pieces, all those pieces could take root and start growing. Anytime the water temp is above 60°F and climbing or staying steady will work. BUT I wouldn't treat it if the water temp is in the 80's or higher, when they die they will start to decompose and the decomp process uses O2, which is in shorter supply the hotter the water is. TJ is correct, treating it later in the year makes it harder to kill. If the plants have some algae growing on them, the algae sucks up some the herbicide making less available to kill the milfoil.

The one thing about flumioxazin, unlike fluridone, is that you have to watch the pH of the water. Flumioxazin doesn't work as well in water with higher pH levels.
