Hey guys. New to the forum and new to ponds.
After clearing the woods and brush in my backyard I discovered a small pond (10ft circle 30” deep) with an overflow pipe. From the bottoms pumps about 25 GPM of clean clear and cold spring water. It looks like someone tried to dump concrete to seal it years and years ago but failed to stop the water and just installed an overflow pipe.
The issue was during heavy rain and storms, the runoff and leaves and sticks would backup and clog this overflow and the combination of the spring and backed up pipe (ran to creek off property) Would leave the yard saturated for along time. So I decided to dig next to the pond about 4’ deep and about 25x25 ft then knock the remaining wall between them.
The new addition filled up quickly however it is very clouded with suspended clay. I didn’t think it was going to be an issue since clean spring water will just replace the muddy stuff and send it out to overflow. The only issue is, now the spring outlet is also putting out muddy water. I added some gypsum pellets (40lbs) but if the spring has been disturbed and pumping out clay filled water, displacing the water by 25GPM will I ever get it to clear? Or just hope that the spring “well” eventually clears up?
I’m going to try to upload pics.
Also, i cored into the poured concrete and hammered 6” pipe down into and under the concrete which gave me access to undisturbed spring water. Call it a half butt artesian well lol.

I would PETSONALLY leave it alone to let Mama Nature take her course.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
