Guess what guys, I have more questions!
I was investigating native flora/fauna that were at risk and came across this list.

https://www.fws.gov/athens/endangered/tefish.html

Have any of you attempted to raise 'at risk' fish in your ponds? Is there a way to acquire them?

Im going to ask a lot of questions, but only because I'm clueless

There's some cool looking species in that list. The biggest issue I see is that most of these live in running water, and I don't know if they'd live or reproduce in ponds. And there's the difficult task of even finding some, and the legality of possessing them.

I would be careful about capturing endangered species. I am in California and the powers to be don't seem to care about your intentions. We can't even use grass carp. We are forced to use chemicals to control aquatic weeds. You have to love the way our political system works.

Beings these are listed on USFWS site, obviously this is a Federal issue and may or may not be a state issue but federal Regs say it is illegal to "knowingly trap, possess, transport or otherwise alter habitat" of species listed on threatened or endangered lists as posted by current USFWS.

While I do agree, I'd like to play devil's advocate and just say, "what are the chances you'd get in trouble if you caught a few of these in a minnow trap and transported them to your pond?" Especially if they're mixed in with other species. Worst case scenario, you play dumb and say you didn't know they were endangered. Again, I do NOT recommend testing your luck... I just don't see you getting into trouble if you're careful. If they're threatened and/or endangered, I doubt you'd find any anyways.

That's why it says "knowingly".. intent is another side of it. I get it, I've done some things possibly debatable ...doesn't make it right, but I do understand.

Similar to the "Topeka shiner".. everywhere we go-there they are, yet they say few exist..
The reasons to add species to this list "May" include political reasons to stop one project or another :-))

Yep, exactly, lol. If you got a bucket full of suspicious-looking minnows with a print-out of Georgia's endangered fish sitting on your dashboard while getting pulled over, that might end differently for you laugh

There is a fishery in Tenessee that has these for some type of purpose, its unclear if they sell or just study/do government work.

You can apply for a permit through the USFWS. I would imagine it would be pretty extensive though.

Due to cormorants, Osprey, Bald Eagles and even Otters at times my fish are endangered every day. Oh! I forgot i can kill them off too through fish kills and not taking care of the over grown vegetation

Do not judge me by the politicians in my City, State or Federal Government.

This would be a very bad idea IMO. Once an endangered/threatened species is on your property you lose control (practically speaking ) of decision making.
