My in laws are not doing so well. Mother in law has had back surgery and cant even stand up str8. Father in law has had more bones brock than I knew we had. I had a terrible car accident 20 some years ago. So they are at the point of nursing home or live next to us. No of us want the nursing home idea at all. So we will be building them a home next to ours. He loves to fish when his body let's him. I will be putting the backdoor on this house within maybe 30 of our pond (he will flipping love it). I will post pictures of how all this goes. They still have to sell there place in town. Called local contractor that we use. We are looking at maybe Nov-Dec. Hope this all goes well. I will post some picture as things progress. Me and family will be doing alot of the work. I took a picture off google maps still old picture. The pond is bigger now. I tried to draw it but it sucks on my phone. Box is where we r thinkin.
That will be awesome! And, you'll have someone to really pay alot of attention to the pond and what's going on around the place. I look forward to the progress pics.
We have been talking bout this for a couple years now. Last night is when we started talking a size and where. So I'm curious as 2 how fast this moves along. We have drafters at my work. I happen to be buddies with one. He will be doing my white prints (guessing a cheap version of blueprints) lol.
1st pic is of my ruff draft. Hope you guys can read it. 2nd is showing how close to the edge of the pond it will be (35 feet). Is where we r looking to put it as of now.
I've looked at a lot of floor plans over the last several years and most have you going from the garage to the utility room/mud room but usually then go into the kitchen or hallway. I've never seen one that went into the bathroom. Each to their own and not trying to knock your plan but I don't think I would want people to have to go through my bathroom to use that door. But if he likes it, that is all that matters.
I see your point. Also theres is a front door and backdoor. My thoughts were take your clothes off at the bathroom in laundry is right there. I do see where tht wud seem odd. You got an idea on how to rearrange?
I would think the easiest thing to do would be to move the carport and mud room to the other side of the house, or maybe you could shift the bathroom and closet around enough to get a hallway in there.
Just a theory but for older people to have to carry groceries from the car, especially if its cold or raining, into the mud room thru the bathroom and all the way past the bdrm to get to the kitchen seems like a lot of effort. but that's just me,, not a fan at all of the floorplan but then that's jmo
All the really good ideas I've ever had came to me while I was milking a cow.
I'm with Gehajake, I would have the carport and mud room on the same side as the kitchen. If I was you I'd get on some home builders websites and look at floor plans to get ideas, and then modify them to your taste.
Another thing to keep in mind is you may not want the bathroom opening in the middle of the family room. I like the bathroom to be a little more private. Our half bath is in our living room and we don't like it. We don't like it to be that easy to know what someone just did in there, if you know what I mean. Lol!
You could move closet to in front of the car port. Say 8 X8 size or whatever you need. That would make more room in your bedroom. Then on the other side you would have a door going into you utility room, make this whatever size you need. Your bathroom would be next to your Kitchen, a lot of bathrooms are only 5 feet wide and 9 foot long. You would end up with 2 doors in your utility room and a 5 foot long hallway. Angling your walls will make it harder to set up your furniture in your cabin. What you need to do is spray foam your bathroom interior walls. This will make it so you can not hear anything going on in the bathroom. Even if someone is taking a shower. Spend the extra dollars on spray foam insulation, it will pay for itself many times over in your heating and cooling bills. You will need a driveway alarm because you will not hear anyone driving up to your cabin. Water and sewer would be all on one side and your furnace would be more in the center of the cabin. Good luck
I think we scratched the ruff draft. We are thinking about adding on our shop. It is 30 by 50 now. Half of it is just a play room (pool table, fridge, bathroom, fooseball, darts. we might use that space and add on anther 20 feet or so and build in there. Its hard to pull the trigger on just idea.
