I am trying to slowly kill off my 3-4 foot tall willow trees around my pond. Glyphosate seems to work. I applied it with a rubber glove and manually applied it. I did not use an aquatic approved glyphosate, because I had control over how much chemical got in the pond - I could keep it out by hand application.

I would like to switch to spraying the trees, so I am thinking I need to switch to a form of glyphosate that will not harm my fish. Can someone recommend the best choice for glyphosate that will not harm my fish?

Thank you!

Glyphosate is glyphosate. It is the surfactant. Rodeo is the brand name of the aquatic version. You add your own non ionic surfactant. Imazapyr is another product that works well on stuff like willows.
Both are non selective so will kill everything.

Thank you. I will pick up one of these products. For a non-ionic surfactant, can I use Dawn dish soap, or do I need to buy a certain kind?

There is a surfactant made for it and probably sold next to it depending where you buy. I would use that.

Like jim100said, use a herbicide called Habitat and spray the trees. That is rated for pond use too.

We moved into our place last November. The smaller willows on the dam I am managing, but have a 12-15' tall black willow that I'm debating what to do with. It is in the corner of the the dam and one of the side banks. Would you all still recommend killing it?

I would dig it out as much as possible, pull it with a tractor, and keep the area mown where it was until the sprouts subside.

I would clip them and then put some Tordon RTU on the base.

I take back what I said before and now vote Tordon RTU. I had forgotten about its powers against trees.
