Our family has started the process of planning for a pond. I purchased the book by Bob Lusk perfect pond, read it twice and already talked to one contractor. The road bump is that I called the NRCS and they informed me they no longer deal with ponds and referred me to the Army corp of Engineer. This sounds like it just got expensive. The contractor said he had no problems not pulling a permit. The land is zoned agricultural and will be spring fed. The spring starts just up hill from us and dumps into the creek right past our property line. It will affect no one down stream from us. I feel i still need to get a permit but am real concerned working with the corp. Any advice or other's experiences working with the Corp? The pond will be less than an acre.

HC, you need to check state regs. You may not need to deal with the Corps for such a small pond and dam.

I agree, don't talk to the the Army Core of Engineers at all unless you absolutely need to, not even to ask them "do I?" You don't want to show up on their radar.
That's funny about what you were told from the NRCS. I'm currently working with them now on a new pond project. I think a physical visit to your counties NRCS office is in order. Maybe call ahead and set up a meeting with the person that deals with ponds to ensure that they will be in the office and have time for you.
