So I have a buddy who works at a brick factory. I got 30 bricks with the holes in them. What I am thinking about doing is cutting down some cedars waiting for them to dry out then making a pile out of them then just going to weigh them down with the bricks. Now my question is do they have to be standing up or can they be laying down?

first, don't let them dry out. the sooner you can sink after cutting the better they stay together. A 6-7' cedar would take 10-15 bricks to hold in place, AND..if bricks are true clay (old brick) they will dissolve within 2 years. Laying down is not the beast way.. your target is to cover more vertical in the column so several trees tied and stacked together is better than laying them side by side.

Concrete blocks are pretty cheap and they will not dissolve quickly.

Hold it a minute. I thought you had to wait for the ceaders to dry out before you had to put them in so they dont release a chemical that takes the oxygen out of the water?

Nope, that’s oaks.
Lusk tells me that cedars will generally last about 4 years.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
