I'd like recommendations for a continuous run air compressor that will supply 10lbs of air to a diffuser 600' away.

I plan on running a series of air hoses to aerate my 9' deep 1/4 pond.

Have been using a shop compressor and generator at the pond.

Thanks

Look into the Gast rotary vane pumps. My Gast 0523 is on it's third year in my 1/4 acre pond and I have been happy with it. 600' is a long way to go so use larger line to make that distance then spit out to the smaller diffuser lines. What do you think your system will consist of? (number of diffusers, brand or style of diffusers, depths of diffusers, and such.)

10 psi is about the max of most Gast pumps or at least their recomended max. Mine runs three diffusers and stays pretty close to 5 psi. The trick with these pumps is that you actually get more air flow with less backpressure. A pump rated at 10 psi is more than you probably need so long as your main line is large (maybe 1" diameter). 9 foot deep diffusers will need 4.5 psi, normal line legths can add 1 psi to it, but 600' of line (especailly small line) will add even more pressure requirments...still a ways from 10 psi. Make sure you figure your back pressures before buying a pump or you might get a pump capable of the proper pressure, but not the right CFM

I'm still thinking if done right... a 10 psi pump will do. Let's here about the systems specifics before assuming.

It's like this one, a duplex, but a different brand.

Running a longer hose seemed easier and cheaper than power/conduit. I'd be comfortable running either service, I do low voltage cabling for a living.

Running air line to the pond is cheaper and easier, but having electric at the pond can be nice too...

Given some system assumptions and some quick pressure loss calcs suggst that the Gast 0523 using 3/4 to 1" id supply line (600') would work well for your pond.

Conditions:

Double diffuser set at 9 foot deep,
600' of 3/4 - 1" ID line beteween pump and pond,
100' of 5/8" from pond edge to diffuser,
properly sized additional plumbing (ID to be same as connecting hose/s) (ie. pressure releif valve, pressure gage fittings, control valves, etc).

These conditons would create a back pressure of 7.5 to 10 psi whcih would yeild about 3 CFM at the diffusers. The pump would be running close to it's max pressure with 3/4" id line for the 600' distance with the diffuser at 9 foot depth. Going with 1" ID line instead of 3/4" would gain you about 1/2 CFM at the diffusers, but that might be pushing their recommended air flow. Do you have any specs on the diffusers (Flow throughput max and lift charts?

If you decide to run electric to the pond and choose to only run the one double diffuser...you migh be able to go with a smaller pump.

Thanks, Noel!

This is the one I purchased and installed.

Long story short, a one year traveling job has turned into four with a fifth starting after this virus business. Trying to pop something in while I have a little time.
