Good Afternoon and Happy Good Friday Everybody...
I've lurked off and on gathering information to take care of our 3 ponds and finally decided to join the forum. Taking proper care of ponds is a challenge, and I need a knowledgeable group of friends...I hope I've found the right place.
Here's what we have...
1. East Pond - About 3/4 acre with a maximum depth of 8 feet. I've stocked it with channel catfish (entering second season) and is also loaded with sunfish. I'm trying to catch some of those out. The challenges in this pond have been filamentous algae and water primrose.
2. West Pond - About 3/4 acre with a maximum depth of 6 feet. It has large mouth bass. It's been exceptionally clear...too clear. I battle pondweed in this one.
3. Mini-Cooper - We're near Cooper lake so we call this one Mini-Cooper. It's closer to 2 acres (12-14 feet max depth), fed by a creek and drained by culvert. Water flows through it pretty well, so fewer problems with plants. It has large mouth bass, bluegill, and crappie.
I'll post more in the other forums. I'm looking forward to learning from the group and ultimately equipping myself to be a resource or others.

Welcome 3TX. Some of us are in your neck of the woods. Many years ago I fished some farm ponds near Birthright, Tx around the time they were building Cooper. Sounds like you have some nice ponds. I usually have decent luck with Cutrine Plus granules on the algae.
Fishing has never been about the fish....

Thank you for the welcome Zep. I just tried Cutrine Plus liquid. I have a 55 gallon pull behind sprayer. Do you find that the granules last longer/do better?
I also have a pond rake and I've been getting my workout pulling out as much algae and primrose as I can.
My mistake and my big take away this season is I should have started sooner. I'm interested in dying the pond as we head into the spring and hopefully minimize it all.
We live South of Cooper lake...pretty area around here.

I think liquid is probably good too...maybe better. I don't have a sprayer and just like the ease of granular. I assume they both work nearly the same...granular may be more expensive? That is a pretty area over there...Awhile back I looked at a property over there with a really nice realtor named Janet Martin.

Welcome to this forum 3 tx. I have no experience with dye but it's because they say not good to do this time of year to dye your pond. I use tilapia to control my FA control and most of mine is cool water verity that will soon be gone after adding the Tp. Hope this helps ya

Welcome to PB posting.
Goats love to eat water primrose.
Sounds like 3 different systems each with its own challenges.
Seines can reduce sunfish populations.
