Looks like the glitch started on March 30, prior to that it was going well. Maybe someone can report that to the mods and they can see what changed on that date.
I went over to the pond to feed the fish this evening and found a sick and dying deer next to my pond. It had big patches of red bare spots, and one of it's back legs was twisted up. It tried to get up when I got near it, but couldn't. I called animal control and they told me to call the conservation department. They told me to shoot it so it wouldn't suffer, if I could,so I did. Kind of a bummer to have to do it. Now I have to go over tomorrow and try to figure out how to drag it out of there, which is another bummer.

I found one similar to this. It was hit by a car/truck.
Tbar, that is what I was thinking happened to this one. I went over this morning to drag it off and it was over half gone already. I don't know if it was eating any of it but a hawk flew off when I pulled up and 2 vultures were in a tree. I've seen a few coyotes in the area before, so they might of helped.l know it made it a lot easier to drag off.
Fished the pond using my 3 wt fly rod yesterday. I wanted to catch some bg for eating and for fun. I caught several bg and caught a 3 lb lmb. Most of the bg were in the 8 to 8.5" and all of them were female. Not a single male was caught as I fished around the pond, so I am guessing they are guarding nest. And that brings up the fact that I have never seen a bg on the nest at my pond. I have looked but have yet to find a bg bedding area even though I built some bedding areas when the pond was built. The areas were built as shallow flats using sand to build the areas. I know sand is not best but I thought it would be better than clay. After keeping 6 bg I decided to pick up the bass rod threw a wacky worm and on the first cast caught an 8.5 lb lmb. Thought that was a good way to finish up the fishing trip. A great day for sure.

Yes it does payoff Pat. The pond is doing well right now. HA! as I look back over the past 5 yrs there was a lot more to it all than digging a hole, adding water and then fish. I could take the whole page here listing all the people that gave me some assistance in getting it to where it is today. Your name would be on that list

Lol Tracy Seems as we have been at this longer than 5 years don’t it. Was that bass full of eggs or had she already spawned? I think there is still TFS in mine, see some running the surface late evening last few days. I’m still at war removing LMB to make room for crappie, probably have to get rid of bunches of BG also. Saw a few in shallow water all colored up for a few days then they went deep again same with large LMB. Guess they did their thing and left
Pat, she looked like she had done a partial spawn, she was roughed up a little with a little bloody spot on the base of her tail but she still had some eggs in her based on what I saw. She was caught in about 8 to 10' of water but near shallows. The 3 lb'er caught on the fly looked to be in much better shape with fewer spawning marks if any.
I have had good fishing this past week. Caught a 10.8 lmb on Caddo lake. My second one over ten out of the lake in the past 6 or 7 yrs. This larger lmb looked to be on or near the nest with spawning marks at the base of her tail. She also looked to be partially spawned out but still had a sack full of eggs in her. I could see what looked to be eggs about the size of a baseball in her that was located near her or over her vent opening.
Pat, have u noticed at your pond that the lmb spawn will go on the spawn from early March to where I saw males on the nest as late as May last year.

Tracy I have never seen them on the nest before, but they spawn every year it seems, they left the area and the BG moved in so who knows. This spring the water is clear36” or so , last spring the bloom started early. Do you have spikerush in your pond?
Son in law caught a nice SMB today. We are catching Golden Shiners in the trap in the background (along with lots of tiny HBG & many many BF tadpoles). The GS make good bait for the YP and the SMB.
9 yr old pond, 1 ac, 15' deep. RES, YP, GS, FHM (no longer), HBG (going away), SMB, and HSB (only one seen in 5 yrs) Restocked HSB (2020) Have seen one of these. I think that's about all I should put in my little pond. Otter attack in 2023
Hey SG, that looks like a terrific smallmouth! I sent you a PM, check your email when you get time. Would love to hear about more perch ribbons? Lots of forage available? Do you have plans to restock HSB? Walleye?
Still trying to source HSB or Walleye. I don’t think either of the local hatcheries are open. Plus my lovely wife would get a little nervous if I went into a store. We are taking social distancing pretty seriously.
I answered your PM.
Thx Jeff

Got the lawn entirely mowed. Last year I only mowed a portion and did not like it. This look makes me happy! Edit: Why do my pics show as linked image when doing the

How are you going to know unless you try!
NW TX 2ac main pond fed from 1100ac watershed going through 2 2+ac sediment ponds. 1st filled 10/2018 900BG, 200RES, 200HBG, 100CC and 23# FHM...."Free" BH, GSF GSH, LMB & ??? 75LMB 3/2020 I subscribe!
Spread another 25 lb pond fertilizer today. Stocked TFS so trying to establish bloom. Encouraged to see many fish from fry to junior varsity to varsity!

Yes I do have several clumps of it around the ponds edge and a few clumps of Louisiana Iris. I also have a nice amount of APW but then I have Bushy pondweed and I don't like it, seems to be very aggressive growing in my pond. I think it also has caused my water to clear with visibility running around 4'. I have seen 6 or 7' of clear water this winter and I think the clear water has caused me to lose my TFS. That along with the HSB and LMB feeding on them. I do not see any water ripples across the surface.

Frank, from your past post I have seen where you had a good amount of vegetation in the pond. How does the water fertilization effect the plant growth? I need my water to green up some more but concerned when it comes to fertilizing the pond water because it might stimulate my bushy pondweed and I don't need that! So, what are you seeing when u fertilize?

We finally had a day in the high 70's yesterday! It was a great day for spring cleaning at the pond. I noticed a school of 1 inch bluegill swimming in the shallows. Do you think these are from the spawn last fall? If so, I am surprised the made it through the winter. My water temperatures just reached the low 50's in the last couple of weeks. I assume they wouldn't have spawned and grown to 1 inch already this year? Thanks guys as always for your insight.
