I got 1 catfish to come up for dinner time last night. It shouldn't be to much longer before the rest show up. Once it gets warmer out I plan on trying to throw a throw net on top of them in the middle of dinner. If that don't work I will just get the old zebco and a worm out. I see a fish fry I my future.

I was wondering if it was time to get the feeder back out. Will be home tomorrow from our winter haunt down south and anxious to see what shape the pond is in. Got some pond dye ordered to combat what I know will be FA already growing. Reports from home show we had a flood and lots of rain so at least maybe some nutrients got flushed out with the overflow water.

Snrub if your ponds are not running over that means you have an overflow pipe. Everything around d these parts is soaked with more rain in the forecast.

Caught and restocked a fat 3# female LMB to my neighbors pond . Changed to top water bait and was surprised that they were already hitting it. Does anyone know how many LMB to remove to allow the crappie a chance to regroup. Have removed a 9,5,3 and 23 smaller fish 2# and down.

1.5" of hard rain last night more than topped off the pond! Used a piece of .5" wire mesh to see what is coming through the culverts that drain the wetland...5BH and 6GSF in less than 5min...I'm planning on making a screen about 10' in front of the culverts. Tried a screen last year on the culverts but they clogged up pretty bad. Other ideas are welcome.
Saw either GSF or BG making beds in the pond shallows the other night.

Got a quick question for the group. Is it better to mow with clippings going into the water or not? The fish seem to like it they normally follow me eating either bugs that jump in or the grass I'm not sure.

Camping out with just the dogs. Best friend couldn't make it from Houston due to the virus shutdown and family obligations. They are hunkered down with 2 boys and a dog that just had knee surgery.

Watched LMB I guess staging for the spawn along side of BCP all down the dam for the last 3-4 days. Bass ranged from 3-6# with one long as my arm. Thought the crappie were gone as I haven’t been able to catch any as of lately. LMB one one side of pond are tailing in very shallow water. Water temp is in the upper 60s.... figured the BCP would be done spawning by now

Checked for YP ribbons. Still just have the one. I’m afraid my YP just are not doing well. I do have record numbers of bullfrog tadpoles. All the way around the 1 ac pond looks like this.
[Linked Image from i290.photobucket.com]

9 yr old pond, 1 ac, 15' deep.
RES, YP, GS, FHM (no longer), HBG (going away), SMB, and HSB (only one seen in 5 yrs) Restocked HSB (2020) Have seen one of these.
I think that's about all I should put in my little pond.

Good to get away for the weekend after a very challenging week at work. Never had to lay anyone off in twenty year old company....but this week it came and so did the tears. One lady after we laid her off said "I love you guys"....that was emotional. Hopefully it's temporary. So being out at the pond this weekend is such a nice break.

Lots of rain this morning....ponds are all full.

Texas bluebonnet's starting to show up.

Sidewalk to boat slip under water.

Boat slip almost submerged...but gosh these kind of problems are fun.

Zep sorry you guys had to do that. My work did it a few years ago. There were lots of years shed that day as well. It's a very emotional time we r going thur already. It sounds like they will get unemployment and also an extra 600 a week now. DAMN I'd say you got plenty of rain.

I would not put them in the water. Most ponds as they age have problems with too much nutrients rather than too little. Adding the grass will just add to the nutrient load.

A pond will get shallower on its own from the things that go into it. But as far as I know ponds never get deeper on their own. The more we can keep out (other than the stuff we want there like structure) the better.

At least 1 pond record BH today is excellent table fare. Immediately iced them down and soaked in ice water. No mud taste at all.

Your pond is one YP ribbon ahead of mine. I still haven't spotted any. Water is starting to clear so I might be able to see one now if I put the boat in and went looking.

Last year in Missouri must have been good conditions for bullfrogs to make more bullfrogs. My pond is loaded with them. Thousands of them.

With water temps getting to the upper 50s I started the slow-roll on aeration this week. I'm adding 15 minutes/day to the run time.

Stopped in at the farm-n-home over lunch today and picked up a gallon jug of Cutrine+. I had hoped to avoid chemicals but the FA is going to go nuts if I don't do something. I'm going to wait until the aeration is going a couple hours/day to put it in.

What I have found works pretty well around my pond is I leave about one or two swaths around the pond uncut. Then I make a pass throwing towards the pond those approximately two swaths out. This lets the tall grass catch the clippings keeping them out of the pond better. Then after making a few passes throwing the grass toward the pond, I finish by cutting those last two passes throwing the grass away from the pond. By cutting those last, they help keep the clippings out of the water.

I’m heading up to the pond tomorrow. Hopefully there’ll be another ribbon or two. I have some Cutrine left over from last year. The FA was the worst it’s ever been (last year). I’m hoping I may not need it, but I’m afraid that’s just wishful thinking.
Hope you see some ribbons!

Augie, my first spring was like you describe with all the frogs. I had hundreds and hundreds of them everywhere. Tadpoles too. But after my lmb grew the next spring their numbers dropped to just a hundred or so with some of them being big bullfrogs. And then the frogs learned not to get in the big pond lol. They took to my sediment pond instead.

Do not judge me by the politicians in my City, State or Federal Government.

Snrub that sounds like a pretty good idea. Thanks for the tip. I'm lovin the grass greening up around here. I'm hoping this year to get the top of my damn all filled in and grass growing. Only bout half of the pond has grass along it as of right now.

My computer at home might be on the fritz. anyone else having problems seeing the pictures in the last two posts by Shortcut just above this one? The first post has a jagged jpeg icon and it says 'linked image' and in the next post there is a link with the around it but I can't pull up the link.

I know my computer filter sometimes does this but I have filtering off and can't see them. I can't seem to post my own pictures either. I have chrome and didn't have this issue before. If everyone else can see then never mind.

If I go to my own thread (pond redo) it dosnt work. The picture that is, comes up as blank screen. So I dont think it's your computer. I went back and looked at some older posts. There are coming up blank aswell. I sent an msg to moderator about it. This forum caught a virus itself. I would make a RONA joke but might be to early for that.

Thanks for checking and letting me know RStringer. I was going crazy on my end trying to figure it out. Other forums are hosting and showing pictures just fine. Hopefully the mods can get it fixed as of 8:15 pm EST it is still not working
