Cattails? Id kill them immediately. Or at least keep an eye on them.

That RES almost looks like it has some GSF or PS in it, just going by the crazy orange/turquoise colors on his head.

Jim100, are you 100% certain they are cattails?

Not certain they are cattails. They do look a little different than cattails with more looking.

They were cattails, I took 95% of them out. I left a few in the spillway to help with erosion. That's the one thing they are good for.

Just remember that what is left will reseed! So you might rethink that

Just remember that what is left will reseed! So you might rethink that If he's diligent, then he could go around this time of the year and cut off every durn catkin that formed, put in a trash bag and throw out, or burn them.

See this link to compare to PS. Has excellent pics and text. https://www.seagrant.wisc.edu/fish-id/#fishMain

Yeah, I grew up catching Pumpkinseed in Upstate NY. I don't think we had RES, though, so I'm less familiar with them. They both have the red marking on their "ear flap" and similar coloring and stripes, at least the younger ones do. The older ones are easier to discern from one another.

Well based on this info, I caught a PS and not a RES.

Is it me, or does photo #1 and photo #2 look like different species? Or are they both RES? The coloring on it almost looks like a PS, especially the head.

Photo 1 is a pure RES, 2, I'm not sure, 3 is a RESXBG Cross. My thoughts were 2 looked similar to my adult RESXBG cross..??

Here is a pure Pumkinseed. The head markings on it are comparable to the one in photo #2. Is there even such a thing as a PSxRES? or PSxBG?

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Pumpkinseed are one of the most beautiful fish. However, I do like redear even more, because size matters.

Is there even such a thing as a PSxRES? or PSxBG? Yes, I've caught them when they naturally hybridized in a lake in Wisconsin.

Just added walleye and some big perch to the pond. Keystone did not have any smb that I ordered. I need to find a source for SMB or HSB. Any suggestions?

Do your homework to find some HSB for next spring stocking unless you can locate some left over ones from this year's sales. Stocking them next year will be just as effective at controlling 2021 spawn from the YP. SMB will be harder to locate; stock them whenever you find some.

Hartley's at Wichita has SMB on-hand. No Walleye. When the ice comes off (quick I hope) Rod can help you out on the HSB.

Snipe I'm looking for 20 SMB; 6-8 inches would be preferred, but I'd take whatever I could get. Hartley's would be a haul for me. I found a source in Wisconsin that is a lot closer, but they will not have any until next fall. Sorry of the late post Snipe, I work nights and haven't logged in for awhile.

I let all of my available smb go to a state project this year.
