Hello, guys! I have a thread going on under the
Quote:
Property Projects & Construction
title, and I have recently added some pics.

Appears to be cinder blocks filled and skimmed with crete?? Dam was built around 1949 and was finally controlled destructed in 1970. Water was going around the cinder block edges.

Was this a common way of building Dams in the South back then?

Just at a casual first glance, it looks like both ends of the dam might abutt rock faces. Might be a little more complicated than just pushing some clay up into an earthen dam. I would definetely suggest some pro advice if this is the case.

Roundy- one side was into earth, but the other side went into rock, but it was the worst kind- some kind of sandy and crumbly rock that breaks apart in your hands fairly easy. I wonder if the soil was solid at one point, but then eventually eroded away to that crumbly rock...

First thing- should probably get to removing all of the 40yr growth in there to see what we're truly working with!

A few hours with an excavator would let you know what you're working with, a perfect good ole boy small project.
