Greetings from NC
Looking for help. I have read a lot of posts but not found a good answer to this.
Have watermeal in a 2 acre tree, shrub and grass rimmed pond. I'm going to lower pond to get clean edge. I have Clipper and have been told by
"pond expert" to use Sonar as well. Will aeration after chem treatment keep remaining watermeal at bay? Not reproduce.
Thoughts about Hiblow vs. Blue Diamond.
Thanks

I had a pond 1 acre pond covered with watermeal last year. I used Clipper with a surficant (spelling) and sprayed it on. I also added aeration. I haven't seen any watermeal yet this year but only time will tell.

Both WM and DW do not like water turnover. It exposes their roots (when the water turns them upside down). Let us know what happens. WM and DW produce seeds in the pond bottom mud so you may have to repeat if the infestation is bad.

If nothing else the aeration should help prevent a fish kill by keeping the watermeal from totally covering the pond surface (cutting off light penetration so algae can't produce O2 in the water).

I have seen it in my daughters old pond (before we renovated and expanded it) and it would only cover the pond on calm days. When it was windy it would all blow to one shore. Where your pond is surrounded by shrubs and grass you might not have much help from the wind. This is where I would surmise the aeration would help a lot. The air/water boil caused by the aeration causes an outward current water flow and I would think that would help push the watermeal towards the edge of the pond. I have no experience in that respect but the aeration boil does create a substantial surface current at least near the boil.

Apparently grass carp will only eat watermeal (maybe) after they have eaten everything else. More of a bottom feeder than a surface feeder.
Thanks for the thoughts thus far.
Hoping that by lowering the water level temporarily will will expose bottom, dehydrate some WM and make the Clipper/Sonar more effective.
