I heard these have been used in catfish farms id think they would be great as a predator to keep certain Numbers down i really wana have a pond of crappie but everyone says how they will take over but id think with the hybrid catfish they could keep crappies numbers down while getting larger at the same time
also do they taste better than normal channels? iv never had a blue cat i was told flathead was the best then blue then channels i dont want any bass in my pond just crappie some bluegill if they dont get in the way and cats i think channels wouldnt help keep the numbers down on crappie in say a 1 acre pond

i dont have a pond now im just curious for the future if i ever get a pond id fish all the bass out of it and channel cats if possible because i was told if u ever catch a channel on a hook they wont bite ever again and i think there is truth to this as i been to catfish lakes smashed them then come back and never could get bites after thats happened a few times so far
i wonder if the hybrid blues will be able to eat the crappie like bass would they have larger mouths than channels and get larger

I don't think you could ever fish "all" the bass out of a pond. You could kill the entire pond off and start over or dig one from scratch.

I’ve got them in my 40 acre pond and I can’t say that they taste any different. In my fishery I don’t believe that they control the crappie population at all. It should be pointed out that the catfish don’t typically use structure like the crappie do in my pond.

Lusk once wrote about a private lake, about 40 to 60 acres, that he used hybrid stripers to control too many crappies. The cats might do it. Send him an Email. He might use in the Ask The Boss part of the PB mag.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Here is some info on hybrid catfish (C X B). https://srac.tamu.edu/serveFactSheet/252In normal numbers I doubt the hybrid cats will control crappie.

I hope to contribute in the future as I plan to add black crappie and blue catfish to my new 1/2 acre pond. Currently added FHM and LCS. Need to get my lotus transplanted soon protected by honey locust branches.
