Anyone have experience with these from the Florida panhandle or southwest Georgia?

I know a fellow in xxxxxx who is raising them for stocking into ponds.

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

Operation by name of xxxxxx I spoke with someone there by phone today. I am trying to find accounts on behavior in ponds. Have kept them in past but want to do a little study. Based on what I recall they differ from Northern and Coppernose Bluegills I piddled with before.

See following images. I have yet to figure out how this site handles image files. The fish below were tank spawned and reared prior to holding in culture pond for about 60 days. Both sexes have the black splotches although males have larger. Some males have very large black spots. I have been working with them for quite a while using them in part to develop to develop a domesticated bluegill strain that also has coppernose and northern bluegills in it. Breeding and raising all in parallel where you can see what is going on. I have only three pure fingerlings left and want more to do a feeding experiment.

Pretty fish! They would make good displays in public or large private aquarium tanks.

Wow, never seen anything like that. That would surely turn some heads if caught here in southern Arkansas.

Try some but do not let them cross with your native northern bluegill or coppernose bluegill. They should be able to handle your winters just fine but do not do well this far north as pure.

Yeah you got that right peach... even in north Arkansas.. lol

They are a good looking fish though. Kinda like a paint horse in that regard I thought he was joking when I first saw the post... never heard of them...

Centrarchid, you say do not let them cross?? Why not? What personality traits are you speaking of? How do they differ from native BG besides their markings? I would not think it would be invasive like the GSF?

RC; I thought it was going to be a handing painting of a bluegill, was kind thinking "cool, that could be my new wallpaper!!"

Hybrids do not look much like Hand-paints. Coppernose and Northern phenotypes dominant to my eye. Besides you would muck up your native local Northern Bluegill stock.

Behavior wise they may be more territorial outside of breeding. We see what we call "brats" that have distinctive color pattern when chasing other fish from feeding areas. Really evident around feeders.

Welcome to the forum! Posting pictures here is a pain. But a few steps is what it takes to get them here. First off you have to be in the "posting form" which you access by clicking on "reply".

1) They have to be posted somewhere on the internet. Photobucket was used by many, but now due to their ransom request, unless you pay them you can't use their site for 3rd party hosting.

2) Copy the location where the picture is. Starting with the http and ending with the .png or .jpg http://www.hoosierpondpros.com/images/74a816a4b29fa4b4fa5fbeca0ca0c182_c4x2_b1tp.png

3) Click on the box next to the open envelope (to the right of the open envelope). When you hover over it with your pointer, it says "enter an image".

4) Left click on that and it will open a drop down box that starts with saying "enter a non-floating image". Click on that and it opens another box that says "enter the complete URL of the image you want to display".

5) You paste your image location there, making sure that there is only one "http://", then click on OK.

That should do it.
